Mega Man Dual Override E-Tanks, Bolts & Collectibles

What Dual Override lets you pick up, what you can spend it on, and what Capcom has not yet published.

E-Tanks, Bolts & Collectibles

Every classic Mega Man since the second game has had a small economy hiding in the stage. Pick up a life tank, save it for the boss, and spend the rest of the run on a buster. Dual Override keeps that loop and layers Custom Chips on top of it. What changes is the part where you spend: Bolts now sit in a 2027 economy, and Capcom has not yet published a full shop.

This page is the pickup guide. For the system that decides what you do with your pickups, see the Custom Chips page and the chip set ranking. For the route that taught us the pickup cadence, see the Twinkle Girl guide.

E-Tanks, still classic

The Energy Tank, or E-Tank, is the most famous pickup in the series. Each tank is a full health refill that you can trigger on demand. Classic Mega Man has traditionally let you carry a small number of E-Tanks, with later games letting you spend them one segment at a time in a pause menu.

Dual Override has E-Tanks. The Gamescom demo packed one into the Survival Custom Chip preset, which is the simplest way to give new players a learning tool without asking them to find one. Capcom has not published how many E-Tanks you can carry in 2027, or whether the pause menu will let you spend partial tanks. The controls guide treats them as a Custom Action input, which is a stronger hint that the loop is closer to Mega Man 11 than to a free pickup.

The honest rule: spend E-Tanks on Area 2, not on Area 1, and almost never in a hallway. The Twinkle Girl guide repeats this in detail. The pickup economy rewards patience.

Bolts, the new currency

Bolts are the new pickup, at least in name. V Jump’s Gamescom coverage reported that each of the three areas in Twinkle Girl’s route hides two collectible Bolts. Six Bolts per Robot Master, if every portrait follows the template. That gives you a sense of the run, not the spending.

What Bolts buy in 2027 is the open question. Capcom has not published a full shop menu. Possibilities based on the marketing language and the loop:

  • A new chip or a chip upgrade. The Custom Chip menu in the shipping game is the obvious place for a Bolt sink.
  • An E-Tank or a partial E-Tank. Classic Mega Man shops sold lives, but Bolts are new.
  • A Custom Action slot upgrade. If Dual Override lets you equip more than one chip, the second slot may cost Bolts.
  • A purely cosmetic Bolt counter. Less likely, given how often Capcom has called Bolts a pickup in interview snippets.

This wiki will not pick a winner. The 2027 chip board is the moment that answer lands. Until then, treat Bolts as a collectible you should pick up because they are visible and clearly intended, but you should not plan a 2027 budget around a shop that does not yet have a published list.

Health pickups and small heals

Classic Mega Man has always sprinkled small health drops on enemies and in breakable blocks. The Mega Man 11 model is a clean bell curve: weak drops for basic enemies, larger drops for tougher ones, and a guaranteed small heal from the first enemy in a stage. Dual Override has not published the exact curve.

A safe assumption: drops still exist, they still favour aggressive play, and the Override hangover is a real reason to chase them. The Override system page describes the twenty-second class of weakness that follows a burst. A small heal at the right time can save a run.

Lives and continues

Mega Man 11 was the first classic-style mainline game to drop the 1-Up / life loop entirely. The 2027 build, on RE Engine, will likely follow that lead. Capcom has not stated whether Lives return or whether the survival structure is closer to Mega Man 11 with a save-anywhere feel. The difficulty options page does not list a Life counter as a difficulty slider, which is a soft hint that Lives are out.

If Lives do return, the strategy is unchanged: bank them for bosses, do not spend them in halls. If they do not, the chip set ranking is the only “extra chance” lever you will have.

What is not in the economy

Dual Override is a premium Capcom platformer, not a live-service title. The economy does not include:

  • A premium currency store. There is no Capcom Coin or Bolt-Premium dual layer.
  • A daily login bonus. The game has no login.
  • A battle pass. Single-player, no seasons yet announced.
  • A gacha or loot box layer. Capcom has not introduced one in any mainline Mega Man.

If you are arriving from a search that expected those keywords, you are in the correct franchise and the wrong genre of helper tool. The Tools hub is the right place to start over.

How to plan pickups before 2027

You cannot grind Bolts yet, but you can train the habit. Pick a classic Mega Man and run a stage blind. The first run you will count Bolts, E-Tanks, and small drops, and you will feel poor. The second run you will be rich. The third run you will not think about it.

The pickup economy in Dual Override rewards the same learning. The first Robot Master you clear teaches you the Bolt cadence. The second teaches you which chests are guaranteed and which are random. By the fourth or fifth, the run is muscle memory.

This page is the long version of that rule. Pair it with the Getting Started page for the campaign loop, and with the news hub for the moment Capcom publishes a shop. Until then, the answer to “what do Bolts buy” is the same as the answer to “what is the next Robot Master”: the wiki will tell you the day Capcom tells the wiki.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers pulled from Capcom's 2026 previews and official notes.

How many Bolts are in each area?

V Jump's Gamescom coverage reported two collectible Bolts per area in Twinkle Girl's three-area route. Six Bolts per Robot Master if every portrait follows the template.

What do Bolts buy?

Unpublished. Capcom has not shown a 2027 shop. The most likely sink is the Custom Chip menu. This wiki will update when a shop is shown.

Do E-Tanks return?

Yes. E-Tanks are part of the Survival Custom Chip preset in the Gamescom demo. The carry limit and the partial-spend menu for 2027 are unpublished.

Are there Lives in Dual Override?

Unclear. Mega Man 11 removed Lives. The 2027 build has not confirmed whether Lives return. Plan as if they do not, with the difficulty options page as your safety net.

Where is the shop menu?

Not yet public. The news hub and Tools hub will pick it up when Capcom shows a shop. The chip set ranking is the only "extra chance" lever in the meantime.
