Mega Man Dual Override Demo Chip Set Ranking

Attack, survival, and no-support — ordered for Twinkle Girl's public route, not for a finished shop.

Chip Set Ranking

This ranking covers the three Custom Chip packages from the Gamescom 2026 Dual Override demo. It is not a 2027 shop tier list. Capcom has said the shipping game lets you mix individual chips. Until that board exists, these three presets are the only loadouts we can compare on the same stage.

Systems primer: Custom Chips. Route primer: Beat Twinkle Girl. Burst primer: Override.

S — Attack / firepower preset

Auto-charge plus Double Charge Shot is the package that makes Dual Override look modern without deleting the series. You stop losing rooms because your thumb released charge on a landing. You can dump two heavy shots into a glass-cannon boss. Twinkle Girl’s short health bar in IGN’s session is exactly what this preset wants.

It is S-tier for first clears and for Area 3. It is not free. You still have to aim. You still pay Override hangover. You do not get Rush Coil, so Bolts and high ledges ask more of your jump. If your goal is a clean boss kill rather than 100 percent pickups, take this.

A — Survival preset

Barrier plus E-Tank is the new-player package and the Area 2 package. Multiple previews said Twinkle Girl’s middle exam, including Astro Man R and the lift work, hurt more than the finale. A cooldown barrier eats one stupid projectile. An E-Tank turns a learning death into a continue.

It is A rather than S because it lengthens fights instead of shortening them. You will still be holding charge like Mega Man 11 unless you also have attack tools, which this preset does not. In a mixed final board, survival pieces will probably sit next to attack pieces and this rank collapses in a good way.

Use survival if you are coming from a long break, if you refuse to watch a boss clip first, or if you already know you panic-slide into spikes. Pair it with the difficulty options mindset: this is the courtesy layer Ikuta described, not a story Easy mode.

B — No Chip Support, with Rush as the action

This is the honest Mega Man. No barrier, no auto-charge, Rush Coil on the Custom Action button. It is the preset stubborn previewers picked, and they still finished the demo. It is also the preset that teaches Dual Override’s real timing, which you will want before 2027 leaderboards or challenge runs exist.

B-tier for a first look, A-tier for a second look. Rush Coil can skip platforming or steal Bolts, so “no support” is a slight lie. If you never press the Rush button, this is the classic exam. If you bounce through the factory, it becomes a movement kit and probably deserves to sit beside attack for routing.

What a mixed board will do

Capcom’s marketing names rapid-fire, shield bubble, hover, and more. A hover chip would jump this ranking because Dual Override still hides deaths in pits. Rapid-fire would compete with auto-charge. A bubble that lasts longer than the demo barrier would push survival up. The correct 2027 question is not “which preset is S” but “which two chips cover the room the Special Weapon does not.”

Proto Man will scramble this too. A shield hero wearing a barrier chip is redundant. A shield hero wearing hover might be the actual technical kit. Until a Proto hands-on, these ranks assume Mega Man.

Practical pick for tonight’s trailer rewatch

If you are only studying clips, watch attack-preset footage for boss deletes and no-support footage for room reads. Survival footage teaches recovery, not routing. Then go back to Getting Started so the ranking does not replace the campaign loop. Wishlist Dual Override if you want to invalidate this page in 2027 by mixing a real board.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers pulled from Capcom's 2026 previews and official notes.

Is attack always the best chip set?

For short boss fights, yes in the demo. For Area 2 learning, survival was kinder. No-support is the practice kit. See difficulty options.

Will these ranks survive launch?

Not as written. Capcom says you will mix individual chips. This page will split into chip-by-chip notes when that menu exists.

Where does Override sit in a ranking?

It is not a chip. It is a gauge every preset shares. Rank spend timing on the Override page, not here.

Does Rush make no-support overpowered?

Only if you use him to skip rooms. As a Bolt tool he is fair. As a trampoline through Twinkle Girl's factory he is a secret Easy lever.

Should Proto Man use the same order?

Unknown. His shield may make survival redundant. Wait for a hands-on or read the Proto Man guide.
