Timeline

December 2025 — The Game Awards. Capcom announced Dual Override as the twelfth mainline Mega Man, due in 2027 for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The reveal trailer showed 2.5D action and a charge shot. Proto Man’s whistle started the dual-hero rumor. A Robot Master design contest opened the same week.

Early 2026 — contest pipeline. Top 20, then six finalists, plus silhouettes of the other seven Robot Masters. Grand prize still un-crowned in public recaps.

August 25–26, 2026 — Gamescom. Official gameplay trailer confirmed playable Proto Man, named Twinkle Girl, and spelled out Override plus Custom Chips. Press played Twinkle Girl’s three-area route on Switch 2 and other hardware. Interviews with Shinya Ikuta and Hiroyuki Minamitani followed.

Late August 2026 — follow-up interviews. Ikuta said Override names the limiter system. Minamitani confirmed Dual Override is mainline despite the missing 12. Izumi said Capcom would love to consider Mega Man X again, which is not an announcement. Twinkle Girl was the first new boss built. Motion capture is in use for bosses. Switch 2 handheld clips ran at 60 fps in press reports. Full recap: Title and interviews. Preview comparison: Hands-on previews.

What is still missing

  • A calendar date inside 2027.
  • Price, editions, and pre-order bonuses.
  • The other seven Robot Master names.
  • Proto Man’s complete move list.
  • English voice cast after Benjamin Diskin’s decline.
  • PC keybind overlay.

When any of those land, they get a child page or an update to an existing one. This hub will not invent a “roadmap.” Capcom’s site and Official Links remain the primary sources.

How to watch without spoiling yourself

The reveal trailer above is the announcement cut. The longer Switch 2 playthrough sits on Getting Started because it is a how-to document, not a news recap. The Gamescom marketing trailer sits on the Gamescom 2026 page. One video per page is the rule on this wiki.

If you only want to know whether to spend money in 2027, read platforms and wishlist Dual Override. News pages are for the story of the campaign, not for a buy button in every paragraph.
